Our leasing program is designed for committed horse people who want to deepen their knowledge, refine their skills and build a true partnership with a horse. Unlike traditional riding schools, where horses are ridden by different people every week, we believe in providing consistency for both horse and human. This approach fosters a stronger bond, greater trust, and a more rewarding experience for everyone involved.

At the Australian Liberty Equestrian Academy (ALEA), this is more than just time in the saddle or a couple of hours learning liberty, riding or driving. The real magic of our community lies in the care and support that comes from the consistency that our weekly programs provide. You’ll be learning in a friendly, non-judgemental environment where encouragement is second nature, and success - big or small - is celebrated together. This sense of camaraderie is what makes ALEA such a special place to learn and thrive.

Unlike other lease arrangements, our horses are highly educated and continue their development under professional guidance. They work in a correct frame, perform lateral movements, high level dressage moves, love pole/jump/dressage/trail/equitation and are consistently trained to maintain their progress. Experience the thrill of learning the tricks of the trade of horse whisperers, true horse people, high level trainers with horses that will support you to reach your true potential. All lease partners receive weekly coaching in a supportive environment so that we help you to learn their buttons and support you every step of the way. Our regular training ensures both horse and human stay on track, maintain consistency, improve communication and progress together as a team.

To be eligible to be part of our leasing program, you will need to complete Level 1 and 2 - you can do this as part of one of our groups OR complete this at your own speed 1on1.

what is included

Group lessons on each of your days with our qualified trainer
Choose from 1, 2 or 3 days per week
Each horse has their own custom fitted tack (saddle (leather), saddle pads, halters, ropes, boots), rugs, fly masks, fly boots, towel rugs, cooling rugs, winter rugs.
Receive a Personalised grooming kit with all the supplies you need to keep our horses looking and feeling like the athletes that they are.
Each horse has a tailored diet of supplements, hard feed, hay, worming, homeopathy and anything else they may need to be their very best for you.
Each horse has a strict trim and/or shoeing cycle with our qualified farrier who teaches the latest techniques all over the world.
Our amazing vet is on call and keeps them up to date with all their vaccinations, teeth etc and is the paralympics team vet.
We have equissage machines on hand to support the horses when they need and each horse has minimum two equissage treatments per week.
Each horse sees the saddle fitter and body worker specialist minimum every 6 months and some every 3 months and of course get an immediate appointment should anything occur. We purchase new saddles or reflock as instructed as their body shape changes.
Each horse works a maximum of 5 days per week with 2 days off to relax and to fit in their medical appointments.
Experience everything from catching in the paddock, grooming, tacking up, warming up, riding/liberty'/driving, after care, rugging, feeding, and so much more - all in a supportive environment with peers who also value freedom of choice for both partners.
You also don’t have to ride - our horses excel at all groundwork, liberty play and our ponies also drive a cart!

Penny - 12'2 Brumby

Wild Hearted Little Lady seeks Pint-Sized Partner
Clever, curvy Brumby mare with brains and a big heart and eye catching looks. Small in size but full of spark, searching for a little human (under 50kg & 1m50) who dreams big and rides with heart. She dances through dressage, flies over jumps, solves puzzles in obstacle courses, steady on trails and plays at liberty like the pony of your dreams.
Born of the wild, ready for partnership. Next term could be the start of something beautiful for both of you.
Penny has been with us since she was 6 months old and is now turning 9. Penny excels at everything - forest, dressage, jumping, working equitation, pole, liberty, obstacle courses, cart driving - she is limitless in her talent.
Penny is our most intelligent horse - you never have to repeat yourself and she tries her hardest at everything.
Artax

Golden Gent
Dashing 16.3hh golden gelding in a committed loving partnership with his mare Magic. Tall, golden and charming, into bridleless connection, pole work pro, elegant dressage dreamboat and lover of forest strolls.
If you’re kind, confident and up for something grounded yet magical, he’d love to meet you.
Artax, our golden boy, has a big role within the herd and enjoys his time with his human friends as his fun time. Artax is the ultimate confidence booster and loves everything from the beach, to the forest, to pole work, to liberty play, to high level dressage, to working equitation. Bridless work is his jam - he really loves the focus required. Artax loves to keep his riders safe but he is a big boy at 16’3 and therefore expects the same boundaries that he expects from his herd mates. Artax is a rule lover with a very big heart once he trusts you. Artax loves exercising and waits for his special person at the gate - sometimes if you’re running late he may do his excited dance as he is quiet when you first meet him but is very chatty once he knows you. Artax was a successful country racer but he is so solid and level headed. Artax is a dressage king with laterals and passage skillsets.
Rosie & Daisy

Mini Marvels
Mini Appaloosa enchantresses with hearts full of giggles and hooves full of fun. Together we dance through fields of grass, leap over dreams, pull our cart like legends and wander liberty patterns where magic sparkles in every step.
We sharing treats, hay castles, carrot kisses, liberty play and the sweetest scratches under sunlit skies. If you believe in friendship as grand as our tiny adventures, come join us and turn our due into a trio.
Our two miniature Appaloosa horses are exceedingly talented and love everything they try. Daisy loves speed and Rosie enjoys doing something once correctly. They are both currently excelling at driving and liberty.
Rosie and Daisy love to play at liberty together with a human - a highly skilled activity which is so rewarding.
Jerry

Loyal ride or die
Uncle Jerry with a heart as vast as the forest he loves to roam. Fast thinking Liberty King, herd head of security, and your steadfast friend through thick and thin. He’ll wait hours just to be sure he’s never late for you. Deeply bonded, endlessly cuddly and always up for play or a quiet moment together. Loves food almost as much as he loves his chosen humans. If you’re searching for a true partner with a wicked sense of humour and a soul built for loyalty, he is your horse.
Our gentle giant at 17’2 is Uncle Jerry, called this as Winky is his niece. Jerry has a wicked sense of humour and very quiet until he trusts you. Once he knows you, he is your ride or die. He will complain and he will demand scratches and food is the way to his heart but even more so a person who will listen and be consistent. Jerry will wait for his person all day by the gate as he bonds so deeply with them. Jerry feels very deeply and his herd are his everything and it takes some time but his people also become his herd. Jerry prefers to take life easy but he is the disciplinarian within the herd along with Winky, however he is quite the gym buff and enjoys his work. Jerry loves forest and beach walks the best however enjoys arena work as long as it’s kept interesting. Jerry is very fast thinking so for adults we do reserve him for more advanced riders - kids he adores and keeps them safe but adults he expects them to step up and provide him with clear communication and a safe space. Jerry was not a successful racer BUT is exceedingly successful in his after racing life.
Jasper - miniature leopard paloose pony

Cheeky Chappie with a Heart that Soars
Small in stature, vaste in spirit, a miniature pony whose laughter echoes in every step packed with personality, with and a heart as big as his grin. Loves making you giggle, jumping high, pulling the cart and liberty play.
Ready to share laughs, leaps and plenty of Jasper-sized joy every week.
Jasper loves making people giggle. He is very mouthy in how he interacts and expects everything to be about HIM. Jasper is very talented and can jump, play at liberty over obstacles, walk, trot, canter, backup, with the other minis, be RIdden by under 25kg, drive the cart and so much more. Jasper has the biggest heart and loves love.
Murphy

Eye catching gelding with presence you feel before you see. Herd chairman of the board, liberty legend, retired master of high level dressage. His favourite is dancing at liberty to music - beware he will know the routine better than you do. Known for his serious work ethic, commanding presence and quiet wisdom… but don’t be fooled - he’s also got a wicked sense of humour and loves to keep his humans on their toes.
Murphy’s ridden career is over but he is the king of canter pirouettes, laterals, piaffe, passage and so much more.
Magic

A Gentle Soul
Graceful warmblood mare and the perfect ladies’ horse. Soft between the aids, endlessly willing and devoted to pleasing her person. Sensitive to every feeling - if your heart races, hers will too; if you’re calm and steady, she melts into trust.
Magic shines in every arena, liberty is a breeze, floating through dressage, flying over jumps, wandering the forest or dancing bridleless in quiet connection. Searching for a kind, centered human to be her anchor and her inspiration.
Magic, warmblood, is the perfect ladies horse - at just 16’1, she is so soft between the aids and wants to please. Magic loves speed and working correctly - jumping, pole, dressage, forest, working equitation - she can get excited unless her rider keeps their centre - then she follows without thought. Magic is very strict with her boundaries and will make her person listen to her calming signals. This is part of Magic’s process as she feels very deeply when Ridden and needs to feel safe. She excels at bridleless work once she trusts her person.
Winky

Winky is a little pocket Rocket at just 15’2. Winky is sassy and will tell you all her opinions on everything. Winky is interesting as she starts from the pov that humans are going to be nasty and they are to earn her trust - and then she turns into the most cuddly sweetheart ever. In her training, I didn’t see this as she adopted me and there was only some sass introducing the saddle as she was a successful pacer and she had a lot of questions around being ridden - none of them nasty and her training took a long time due to ulcers after racing - she has a strict diet and ongoing support with her diet due to this. Winky loves or can’t stand a human - that is who she is. Winky takes all her work exceedingly seriously from jumping to dressage to trips out, has placed at AG shows and is a favourite as she has fun if she trusts her person. Winky adopts her humans as her family and is fiercely protective of them.
Baby

Curvy Princess
Sweet, single and standing a statuesque 16.3hh with a heart as big as her gentle eyes, this solid mare is as affectionate as they come. Loves kisses, cuddles and quality time. Reliable, easy-going and always up for whatever her human enjoys - be it a relaxed ride or just hanging out.Seeking a fun, kind-hearted companion to share peaceful, feel-good Fun & friendship.
Baby is our youngest and is a solid beautiful mare at just under 17 hands. Baby is a no fuss mare - she likes whatever her rider likes or dislikes. She does have a strong boundary over someone leaning on her wither for balance - she doesn’t like the feel in the slightest so we have moved her to move advanced riders and she is thriving. If you are balanced, she is a dream come true - if you’re happy, she’s happy. Baby is quite quiet at the beginning but she will soon be kissing you all over. Baby is a big girl and knows it so she will try to wheelbarrow you around until you set your boundaries - she is never nasty so it makes everyone giggle. We do not jump Baby as our farriers are still rehabbing her hooves from when she did race training, failed and came to us. Baby is very beautiful with easy to ride movement.
